No, it just means that we can store it easier, the same energy needs will be there. It might mean that nuclear is more useful because the electric car might be a reality. Better storage and energy efficiency is the way of the future. If we don't crash back to the stone age first.

You think China cares about global warming? They got cities full of smog and pollution that harm the enviroment. The president should discuss with them how to improve their air quality That's why our wonderful awesome patriotic corporations love to send their jobs over there. They can do what they want to do. Pollute. Treat employees like crap.

One day someone will come up with a really efficient battery and then energy needs may lessen... No, it just means that we can store it easier, the same energy needs will be there. It might mean that nuclear is more useful because the electric car might be a reality. So you support the 10,000 year plan. LOL that's freaking hilarious and you're one of those guys that don't trust governments. Ha ha ha. You trust someone that actually tells you that they have a 10,000 year plan?

Better storage would solve certain problems. For example, it would make the electric car practical, instead of a novelty for those wealthy people who need an ostentatious sign that they're Doing Something for the environment. But it would not change the total amount of energy used. For that, you have to either make devices more efficient, or convince people they need to live with less. The former is practical. The latter will only get traction when people don't have a choice. We know from Obamacare that the government has no problem taking peoples' choices away from them; I suppose when the energy problem gets serious enough, we'll all be told we're going to live with less.

The latter will only get traction when people don't have a choice. We know from Obamacare that the government has no problem taking peoples' choices away from them; I suppose when the energy problem gets serious enough, we'll all be told we're going to live with less. Why less? There is plenty of energy out there, just not cheap energy yet, or at least not cheaper than gas, coal, and oil. E=MC2 means there is more energy than we can use we just need to figure out how to access it. But to the thread topic, Obama needs to read some more from sites other than the leftie ones, man made global warming, and maybe even global warming itself has been debunked over, and over again. No global warming has been measured in 10-15 years, and what was measured before is suspect because of where the sensors were, and the scientists caught fudging data. Now of course they are saying that the middle depths are warming up, but not the upper, or lower, yeah right pull the other leg. linkI wonder how we are magically pumping heat into the middle. Turns out it is about 1/3 of a degree OH THE HORROR!! Frankly I doubt they can measure it that accurately. Like 1/3 of a degree will show up in fossil records. Obama needs to focus on making it easier to do business in this country, not harder.

You realize if sanctions were put in place towards offending nations that China would lose the advantage it has through ignoring pollution? Suddenly the US could be a viable player again.

Do you think they would just take the sanctions? Or would they retaliate, and how do you think that would play out?

I do believe the Chinese people are starting to complain about pollution. They now have a large enough affluent class to squawk and be heard. That would be the same trajectory followed in other, industrialized nations, including the USA.
(Not to mention, reports of schools having to be closed on bad air days are getting out to the world to embarass the government. Thus, they are restricting construction of new coal-burning power-plants, and putting the brakes on the number of new cars on the road every year. Never discount the notion of "national pride"-- especially when politicians can't hide under the cloak of "evil corporations".)
Personally, I am sanguine about the whole "energy" thing. We are voluntarily lowering our reproduction rate towards "steady state"-- a bit lower in the most affluent nations. Fewer people=more energy per capita. The "hockey-stick" of post-industrial revolution human population growth is leveling off. If that trend continues, we should be okay.
If it doesn't, Mom-nature is creating lots of antibiotic-resistant super-bugs to do the job.

Them ? They? Personally to heck with all this climate change. We just need to lessen pollution anyway. We need to stop wasting oil so much. This is obvious. We aren't going to be able to drill ourselves out of this there is not enough oil left. They would've gotten it by now. The only oil it's left is an all very hard to get to areas. Some just don't want to stop being nannied. they love oil, and the super cushy lifestyle it brings them these days. So, do you still use electricity? Do you now live in a mud hut, and use buffalo dung to heat it and cook your meals? I notice that you are still using your computer. Why is that? That "wastes oil". Do you own a car? If so, why? That "wastes oil". So does using a bus, so you shouldn't ever leave your home and go any further than you can walk.

You mean like the sanctions put in place against Saddam? That Europe ignored completely? So, what's to stop countries from ignoring any sanctions against China. "Global warming" is nothing more than hot air spewed by Progressives to dupe the low intelligence voter into surrendering more and more of their liberties to their "betters".

I believe that kemmer, in this thread or another, has rather effectively dismissed your strawmen as just that as well as those offered by the left.

I don't think that "low intelligence voter" means quite what you think it means. Whenever I read redleg about low intelligence voters I am reminded of Alanis Morrisette for some reason.

Violating pollution standards. There's more than one type of sanction. It's no secret China is the manufacturing giant because it ignores pollution standards. Add to that their tricks with de-valuing their currency and you have a nation playing with a stacked deck. Meanwhile we struggle with unemployment. If you make life difficult for the Chinese to play these tricks instead of encouraging them maybe, just maybe, the American worker can catch a break for a change.

I don't believe that's as easily done as said. Americans, particularly poorer Americans, are rather hooked on the cheap products China produces. Withdrawal will be painful. China holds a bit less than a quarter of our debt. 'Nuff said.
