The Os are grinding through them. It's almost eerie.
I hope either Davis or Cruz can heat up a little. It will be more difficult down the stretch without much contribution from either of them. Not sure about Jimenez coming back this weekend. The staff has done better without him & his 4.5 ERA.
anyone see the game last night? The ump expanded the strike zone quite a bit. Hitters from both teams were glaring back at him.

I'd really like to see Jimenez relegated to the bullpen until he proves he can pitch at this level again. Buck has little choice though, so I guess he's gonna have to trot him out there. Maybe with his back against the wall Jimenez will "buckle up" and pitch well. Buck's gonna have a seriously short hook with him I'd think, with every game being so meaningful now.
Davis looks like he is showing signs, which is encouraging. Cruz is slumping, but I expect he'll turn it around. He's just gotta be more patient. As with Davis this year, people just aren't throwing much that can be hit to him.
That ump was seriously pissing me off last night with that! He was wildly inconsistent, IMO.
Huge series win though, that had to be demoralizing to the Jays. Now they are tied with the Skanks for second. Speaking of that team, as much as I loathe them, it's pretty admirable to see them hanging in there on pure willpower. That team should be near the bottom of the league when you look at them on paper, especially given their run differential. I keep expecting them to go on an extended losing streak, but it just isn't happening. I would still be surprised to see them get to the playoffs, but the fact is they'd be in if it started today.
Well the rest of the season is going to be interesting with so many inter-divisional games coming up. Some of these teams are going to be beating each other up. If the O's can keep winning series like this, they'll be in fine shape.

My favorite team comes to town to face a legit Orioles team. The Cardinals have a tough series ahead of them. Unfortunately I can't attend any of the games.

Not a bad outing from Jiminez today, but I'd still rather have Miguel Gonzalez, who was optioned to Triple A to make room for the base on balls machine. I guess a 3.32 ERA over your last 18 starts doesn't count for as much these days. The guy can pitch; leave him with the big club and let him take his regular turn in the rotation.
Six starters is simply too many and the five we had pitching regularly seemed to be in a rhythm and were pitching well. I don't agree with disrupting all of that just to accommodate a guy who's making a lot more money. If the Orioles try to go with six starters, the result will likely be disastrous. Pitchers need regular work and too much time between starts usually means that his control will suffer.
The O's are on a serious roll right now. Respect the streak.

Subpar outing from Gausman today (a terrible first, then he settled into ups and downs that averaged to mediocre) coupled with a few missteps by a usually solid relief team. Oh, well, can't win them all.

Now the Yankees come in for a three-game set beginning Monday. Let's go for another series win-or better yet, a sweep--and eliminate whatever hope they may have had of winning the division.

As as a reward they get to go to Cleveland.
Not every cloud has a silver lining.

Didn't Albert Belle sign with the White Sox after leaving Cleveland? They were just smart enough to give him an opt-clause in his contract.
Terrific job tonight by Chen against Cleveland in a losing effort, but the Yankees and Jays also lost. Hard to score many runs when your No. 2 hitter goes 0-for-five with four Ks. Chris Davis is starting to remind me more and more of Dave Kingman. Or Rob Deer.

Maybe, I don't remember. By then most of my BB interest was gone BUT I do remember he was a nutty kind of guy, the opposite of say Bo Jackson who was really a fan favorite during that era.

Well, there goes the series winning streak.
If there's a silver lining to tonight's game, maybe it's that it will convince Buck that Jiminez does not belong in the rotation.

First time we've dropped too consecutive games in a long while....can't win 'em all, I guess. I have this nagging fear though that our bats will go silent, as they have in the past, just when we need them the most.

Is that because Buck had 4 players hitting below .220 in the lineup last night? And Joseph's barely above that. If Davis or Flaherty were in the NL, there are probably a few pitchers that would get an intentional pass so they could pitch to them. lol

OK, back on the winning track today in Cleveland. A good start by Gausman, a great job by the bullpen and 12 hits by the offense. Let's keep it going in Chicago.

Fortunately neither Chicago team is playing particularly well.

I believe the Orioles will also miss Chris Sale, the White Sox ace, in the upcoming series. Good thing, because otherwise Chris Davis might have become the first hitter in major league history to strike out five times in four at-bats.

Nick was in the zone tonight with a two-run homer and a tremendous catch in the 7th to take away a 2-run homer. Good start from Bud Norris and a big bases-clearing double by Schoop in the eighth to break the game open.
Seven and a half games up on the idle Yankees with 39 to play. It certainly isn't over, but it's looking good.

If the O's play .500 ball, they'll win the division by a mile, with about 90 wins. Meanwhile the Jay's and Yanks would have to play lights out to reach 90 wins at this point. Nothing I've seen from either team indicates to me that they will be playing .700 ball.

As others have said, nothing is certain, but they're probably looking at champagne about now in the front office.

Maybe the best outing of the year tonight by Tillman. Other than the one mistake to Jose Abreu--which didn't appear to be that bad of a pitch--he was dominant. Some timely two-out hitting by Davis and Delmon Young. It seems like every night, someone steps up and contributes. My only concern is Machado saying that his knee doesn't feel any better at this point. If the Orioles are to make a deep playoff run, I think they need Manny.
Eight and a half games ahead of the Yankees and nine up on Toronto with 38 to play. I'm optimistic, but so were teams such as the '78 Red Sox and the '64 Phillies. I don't think this O's team has a major collapse in it, but this still isn't the time to start looking ahead to the playoffs.
It's interesting to note that the two teams which made major deadline deals--Detroit and Oakland--are really struggling right now. Oakland is having trouble scoring runs and doesn't look nearly as formidable as it did in the first half, while Detroit's bullpen has been atrocious. The Tigers could very possibly miss the playoffs altogether.
