Blew up our very first vacuum today, in our fleet of upright vacs. Broke the belt and thought that was it but no, it was the actual drive shaft bearing froze up. I'll part it out and shop tomorrow for a new unit.

There's a broken link you need to... wait for it... clean up! It's the one to "Cleaning for Heroes". You've transposed an 'o' and an 'e'.

You should add testimonials on your Web site from satisfied customers. Just a suggestion.

You should add testimonials on your Web site from satisfied customers. Just a suggestion. Good idea and we're working on that to be added. We ask customers about doing referrals to but most do not like to do it, to much time they don't have. We also have an "A" Rating on Angies List

Some typo's on that site Champ. Someone needs to give a good proof read. I would think that attention to detail is important for a cleaning company. Here's a sentence from the site. As wil all our cleanings, we a cleaning checklist to ensure each job we do is done to perfection.

Why do you ask for a personal budget?

Why do you ask for a personal budget? We have tried many avenues to find employees. We have had some success, but not the success we need. We belong to a Cleaning Business Owners talk forum and one of the owners, from Colorado, uses Dave Ramsey's 12 step hiring program. She states she has NEVER HAD AN EMPLOYEE LEAVE OR CALL IN SICK IN 6 YEARS. Well, I tend to not 100% believe the no employee leaving or calling in sick. This person also says she received 1600 applications per month for techs (uumm...yea, right). However, I have read Dave Ramsey's book on hiring and I am now following his program. We just ran our first ad on Craigslist for cleaning techs. We have decided to follow Ramsey's program to the fullest extent simply to see if we receive better results with the people that apply. The philosophy behind requiring a candidate to complete a personal budget is to find out if this candidate can live on what we are paying them and that they will not become dissatisfied with working with us. When an employee cannot live on what an employer is paying them, they become dissatisfied with the company, become resentful, etc. and leave more than like without giving any notice. Now, this is not to say I completely agree with asking for the personal budget. Another one of the steps in the hiring process is to have an interview with the applicant's significant other (husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend) to get to know the candidate even further. The philosophy behind this is that someone's personal life and work life cannot and never will be separate. I am not completely on board with this step either. I keep reading the sections of Ramsey's book on these two points only because I will need to be on board with the points when it comes time to interview. Now, having said this, the ad on Craigslist went live on Friday. We have had 5 responses. The first response came directly to my corporate email with a one line....I am interested in the position. The second response was via phone call asking if she needed to have a vehicle and drive and then she stated that she has no license and no car. We do require employees to drive their own car. We pay above the going rate for cleaning techs, so driving their own vehicle should not be an issue. I also go back to my corporate days...I was required to drive my own vehicle to and from the post office and bank...and I never received anything for driving my own car. The 3rd, 4th and 5th responses did come through the online application. The 3rd response, no car and no license. 4th and 5th responses will receive phone calls tomorrow to start the process. The first step in the process is to spend 2-3 minutes on the phone with them asking them the qualification questions - do they have a car, do they have a license, do they have insurance on their car, can they pass a background check and drug test, etc. We can determine within the first 2-3 minutes of the initial phone interview if they will fit our corporate culture. For example, if I wake them up at 10:30 in the morning, chances are they will not meet the qualification of being able to be to the office Monday through Friday at 8 AM for dispatch. WE will see what the upcoming week brings.

Marketing and advertising business is a piece of cake compared to finding reliable employees

In my experience I found that if you pay peanuts you'll get monkeys, in such a case the best that one can hope for is to get a half decent monkey.

I understand the background check. But I doubt I would provide my budget to you. That's just me though. Good luck.

It's experimental for sure based on the book and success of that system, time will tell if it works. Like my wife indicated, we had some responses already but some don't even fit the initial criteria. Two of them do and they will be called tomorrow for the initial phone interview.

nope...wouldn't supply my personal budget either. and...what if you don't have an SO...does that mean you're not good at relationships and therefore do not work well with others? this seems like an invasion of privacy to me. what if you meet my SO and you don't hit it off with him/her...even if i meet all other criteria...you don't hire me because he/she is a jerk? and...i could provide my pb and you meet my SO and then once hired...decide i don't like the work/travel...etc. very iffy to me. don't care for this hiring model.

I'd have to be extremely desperate to allow myself to be subjected to such an personal inquisition, it's probably easier to get into the masons.

It is a pretty intense way to hire. Personally I would feel like my employer is trying to take over my personal life, and would have no boundaries in what they would expect of me. Not saying that's you RC- just as a person scanning for jobs I'd feel this would be a set- up for intense micromanagement and unreasonable demands... Like " your dad is dying!?! You'll see him at the funeral- this contract needs done!! ""
Once again- not saying you are this way. Just that interview style really blurs boundaries

I could be wrong but when I used to hire many years ago it was illegal to ask of people if they has a car to get to work. I was told it was none of my business how they got there

I have worked for a few companies, even a local county government agency, nothing like that with any of them and yes, I was a very good employee....

I could be wrong but when I used to hire many years ago it was illegal to ask of people if they has a car to get to work. I was told it was none of my business how they got there I believe that's true, unless driving to job sites is part of the job requirement. Which in the case of this company, it is.

I never had to supply a personal budget or bring a significant other in for an interview, and I have held jobs that required me to access classified data. Of course, maybe if the FBI had looked into Aldritch Ames or Robert Hanssen's budgets a little more closely...

I would not provide my personal budget when applying for a job. If a potential employer needed to know my password to Facebook as well I would not give that up either.

Guess I won't be working with Dave Ramsey anytime soom trust me , we don't buy into a lot of it either but are trying some of the other methods. We converse with another service in Colorado and trade war stories. This owner claims to have total hiring 100% success with this system, word for word. I tell her it's demographics and it's not the same type applicants here on the east coast. We have to weed out the craigslist applicants , most don't care about working at all and just make a contact per unemployment rules. Good example of an email response: "Hi, I just moved here with my old lady, I got a car, call me" LMAO, yeah right...
