Good call by the Ravens and the NFL! I'm curious what the NFL will do.

I wonder why this video was not released sooner? Ratings, clicks, whatever. Also, I thought I read that the casino where it happened was one of the ones that just closed. Maybe there weer some legal reasons to do with that? Anybody here play a lawyer on the internet? Many do but they wouldn't waste their time with you seeing as how you don't answer direct questions.

It means he's out unless the NFLPA forces them to rescind the suspension by invoking some clause of the CBA, or unless for some other reason they choose to rescind it, which is unlikely on both counts. The NFLPA cannot defend this without looking like it supports domestic abuse.
Goodell should step down for his stupid mishandling of this.
The Ravens should be heavily fined.
Both organizations saw this video a long while ago, although they will say otherwise because they can't do anything else, now.

I wonder how many of those that were disgusted by this video believe that hitting kids for discipline/punishment is okay? Not I....

With the Steelers coming to Baltimore on Thursday, at least Rice won't be able to beat on any women

I assume it freed up some cap money? The reverse, actually. The mechanics of the salary cap are arcane, but unless the league grants them an exception or there is some way they can pay him, they just incurred a ~$5.5MM cap hit, with only ~$3MM in space. That might mean Ray's crime will cost some other player his job.

I wonder why this video was not released sooner? TMZ has been sitting on it until now. Or the person who ran off a copy has. I had heard it was a casino employee who had the copy, didn't release it until now out of fearing for his job.

The whole "what did you think happened in the elevator" argument is hogwash. Nobody, and I mean nobody knew the brutality that actually happened. The story bandied about was that they were both drunk and fighting with one another. We were told(and assumed) that the struggle in the elevator was between two very drunk people and that he hit her once and she fell. Many felt he was acting in self defense even. Then we see the video, and we see Rice brutally strike her not once, but TWICE, with swift and aggressive action. We see a man who is a monster, who needs help in the worst way, and a poor girl who is still standing by this guy's side even after all of it. He *will* do this again, and that is the truly sad part. The story that was painted to fans, and the media, was certainly toned down from reality, by Rice and his lawyer.
As for the video, the original copy was seen by the police, that much we do know. It was not made available to the NFL or the Ravens for whatever(probably legal) reasons. This copy was made by someone in the casino, who likely was looking for a payday, and TMZ obliged.
The Ravens did the right thing when the situation warranted it. You can fault the NFL and Goodell to a degree for the light original punishment, but they now have done the right thing as well by suspending him indefinitely. Rice's career, is over. Hopefully he gets the help that he needs, and never does this kind of thing again. One can hope.

I'd hope most people thought the "punishment" was to lenient already, but what more does this video bring to light? We already knew he knocked her out. Is it just the harsh reality of seeing it actually happen? My thoughts exactly. It takes pretty solid contact to knock out another human being cold. Did folks actually believe it was a love tap? Apparently some did. Wow.

Not big on autographs myself. Not big on idolizing celebs, sports starts, etc. I can appreciate them for their talent, but honestly, many of them are just people pretending to be someone they aren't and getting paid a lot of money for it. Besides, my idol is my father!

They aren't all covered up linkI had a chance, a couple of years ago, to get a free football autographed by Suggs, and I turned it down because of reasons like this. The Suggs story is very complicated, from what I've read/heard, his wife is a complete nutjob and was actually the abuser in their equation. The "bleach" story was said to be made up, and Suggs was never charged with anything. Sorry, no links, this was old news, but regardless, I'm not going to judge the guy just yet. I don't think he's a model citizen, and clearly his choice of women isn't the best. Not ruling out that he's a total POS, but there's a lot of fishiness to her claims. As for idolizing, role models, etc, I think there are better choices than pro athletes, but I do think that many children look up to them, and they are responsible for making good decisions in life.
