I'd hope most people thought the "punishment" was to lenient already, but what more does this video bring to light? We already knew he knocked her out. Is it just the harsh reality of seeing it actually happen?

In my mind, I imagined he was defending himself from an abusive attack because that had been talked about so much. Not that hitting a woman is ever okay.
He's a piece of sh*# and I hope they (Ravens and NFL) revisit his punishment. It would be nice if the Ravens send him packing. I also hope there is justice on the field, I would imagine some of the guys on "D" he will be facing in the future won't take kindly to this abuse or what appeared to be his lack of concern after it happened.

I really wouldn't count on that. Some of the most despicable characters are amoiung the most respected in the league. Do you remember the reports a few years back about Suggs throwing bleach on his baby mama?

I will NEVER where my Rice jersey ever again. But I had decided that before the video came out.
For sale, Ray Rice jersey, real cheap! :-P

At least we have video this time....

Is it just the harsh reality of seeing it actually happen? The way he did it, and the callous disregard afterwards. Unlike Mike Nifong and many others, who convicted people before they understood the truth in that case, I wanted to see what happened. And now I have. Before that, it was entirely speculative. I have to question Janay's mental health, staying with him. She must be after his money. Look for a messy divorce immediately after his playing days, if he doesn't kill her and go to prison first.

My sister, who is a Steelers fan, said the Ravens are a bunch of thugs. This will give her plenty of ammunition against me, and I'm sorry to say he is a thug. You just don't hit people, women, wives, etc., in my book.

Is it just the harsh reality of seeing it actually happen? My thoughts exactly. It takes pretty solid contact to knock out another human being cold. Did folks actually believe it was a love tap? In regards to those that are disappointed in Rice, this is what happens when adults live vicariously through people they don't know. I enjoy watching football, and enjoyed what Ray Rice can do on the field. That is all he is, or any other athlete is, an entertainer. No more real to me in everyday life then a character in a movie, a cartoon character, or a video game hologram. Emotional investment in total strangers that happen to wear the right color laundry is a waste of energy, and oddly childish for adults.

Seeing how nonchalant he was after knocking her out makes me think this wasnt the first time. If I hit my spouse to the point of knocking them out, im going to immedialety attend to them. When the doors open im yelling help help. He just drags her out of the elevator and places her on the ground in a bit of disgust.

Another thing that caused me to consider leniency was the actions taken by New Jersey law enforcement. This is a major failure for them, for the league, and for the Ravens organization (which is at least doing the right thing too late).

I didn't post to this thread so why the gratuitous inclusion of my name?

Well, apparently(allegedly) at least in the case for the league and the Ravens, they did not see this video until today.

I wonder why this video was not released sooner? TMZ has been sitting on it until now. Or the person who ran off a copy has. I don't believe the league or the organization; if TMZ has a copy, surely the league had one, too. If Janay is smart, she's going to make herself scarce lest Rice respond to this by beating her again. His casual attitude to her being knocked out strongly suggests it wasn't the first time he's hit her. I wonder who he learned that from; most abusers come by it from seeing it as they grow up.

I wonder why this video was not released sooner? Ratings, clicks, whatever. Also, I thought I read that the casino where it happened was one of the ones that just closed. Maybe there weer some legal reasons to do with that? Anybody here play a lawyer on the internet?

I wonder how many of those that were disgusted by this video believe that hitting kids for discipline/punishment is okay?
