The Ravens should be heavily fined. For what? They didn't do anything to violate any rules. Furthermore, those who were calling for(or faulting them for not doing so) the Ravens to add to Rice's initial suspension(and this includes you Keith Olberman, who really should know these things before spouting off), you should know that the CBA forbids the Ravens suspending or adding to a suspension of a player that is disciplined by the NFL.

I believe it is certain the NFL saw the video, likely that Goodell did, and probable that high Ravens officials did. Anyone who saw it and did not advocate for Rice's immediate dismissal - publicly, if privately failed - should be punished. Likewise, any organization. Or this will keep happening.

I agree, but the Ravens say they did not see the video until yesterday, and right now there isn't any evidence to the contrary of that. Even if they had, they did not violate any NFL bylaws, and will not get fined.

The whole "what did you think happened in the elevator" argument is hogwash. Nobody, and I mean nobody knew the brutality that actually happened. The story bandied about was that they were both drunk and fighting with one another. We were told(and assumed) that the struggle in the elevator was between two very drunk people and that he hit her once and she fell. Many felt he was acting in self defense even. Then we see the video, and we see Rice brutally strike her not once, but TWICE, with swift and aggressive action. We see a man who is a monster, who needs help in the worst way, and a poor girl who is still standing by this guy's side even after all of it. He *will* do this again, and that is the truly sad part. The story that was painted to fans, and the media, was certainly toned down from reality, by Rice and his lawyer. As for the video, the original copy was seen by the police, that much we do know. It was not made available to the NFL or the Ravens for whatever(probably legal) reasons. This copy was made by someone in the casino, who likely was looking for a payday, and TMZ obliged. The Ravens did the right thing when the situation warranted it. You can fault the NFL and Goodell to a degree for the light original punishment, but they now have done the right thing as well by suspending him indefinitely. Rice's career, is over. Hopefully he gets the help that he needs, and never does this kind of thing again. One can hope. Wrong. Just folks looking to avoid reality thought like that. He knocked her out, that was always known.

Anyone who saw it and did not advocate for Rice's immediate dismissal - publicly, if privately failed - should be punished. Likewise, any organization. Or this will keep happening. Maybe they did. Maybe they didn't. Doesn't matter. As Peter Schmuck pointed out in his column today, the Feb. 15 video clearly shows Jannay unconscious. She didn't get that way as the result of a friendly game of slap and tickle. Clearly Rice hit her hard enough to knock her out. Open hand, closed hand, one punch, two punches. karate chop - makes no difference. She was knocked unconscious, he did it, case closed. All this was known by the Ravens and the NFL in Feb. The Ravens should have cut Rice and the league should have suspended him indefinitely at that time, not wait 8 months. Clearly the Ravens and the NFL were hoping this would blow over and the public would be distracted by other things. Clearly they were wrong. Something like this will happen again. Maybe in the world of sports. Maybe in the world of entertainment. Maybe in the world of politics. And once again a judgment will be made regarding the chances of a coverup succeeding. And so it goes.

All this was known by the Ravens and the NFL in Feb. The Ravens should have cut Rice and the league should have suspended him indefinitely at that time, not wait 8 months. This I do agree with wholeheartedly. The snag for the Ravens was if they did so before June 1st, I believe they'd have taken a cap hit this year too. I do know that the CBA prevented the Ravens from adding to the initial suspension. It's easy to second guess all of this from where we sit. I'm just glad the Ravens did the right thing in the end and cut him. They are also offering a trade-in for his jerseys, which is a class move. Partnering with the House of Ruth is another good move too. If anyone should be taking heat, it's Roger Goodell, IMO(and Ray Rice, of course!).

Not sure the punch knocked her out or her head hitting the railing inside the elevator. Hotel security saw what happened and I guess they turned it over to authorities who didn't take any action. Remmember Rice went to school at Rutgers it could have been a possible cover up by the new jersey police who didn't press charges.

nope it was pretty pathetic. So is Rice going to be charged with assault? No chance of that. The charges were already reduced and the case is closed. Reopening it would be double jepoardy. He should have gone to jail in the first place.

As much as I love my Ravens, I don't go after sports autographs at all. I do however meets astronauts and get their signatures on books, photos, etc.

Rutgers removes all rice photos and any record of him on display. Madden NFL game to remove rice on next release edition.
This is like when Pharaoh Seti removed all record of Moses
Let the name of Moses be stricken from every book and tablet. Stricken from every pylon and obelisk of Egypt. Let the name of Moses be unheard and unspoken, erased from the memory of man, for all time.

How much you want to bet he plays football again? I don't see that happening. Rice's skills, in my opinion, have been on the decline. Nothing really out of the ordinary, as running backs have a pretty short shelf life in the NFL. Moreover, what team wishes to willfully subject itself to the unwanted attention/distraction that his acquisition would surely bring?

And in case any team was actually grappling with the idea of perhaps signing Ray Rice, the NFL has made it easy for them. According to ESPN, the league has sent out a memo to all teams letting them know that such a move would be a bad idea.
As you alluded, it's difficult to imagine any team crazy enough to even contemplate such a move, but in the uber-competitive NFL, there's always someone looking to gain an edge any way they can. I guess the league wasn't about to risk any chance of that happening.

Random thoughts …
Isn’t this their personal life?
Vick is back in the NFL.
Other criminals are still playing today.
There’s one video showing a single incident. Everything else is speculation.
More to come …

Isn't this their personal lives? It is but he chose to be in the public eye, have a public career and a VERY high paying job as a result. It's part of what comes with being in the NFL. You open yourself up to publicity and public ridicule. Ray Rice is a speaker against bullying.... what a hypocrite. The Rices were happy to be in the public eye as long as it was all rainbows and lollipops. Why not now? They need to suck it up, he needs to be a role model and they need to get help for the entire family.
Vick is back in the NFL. True and this makes me sick! IMHO... the NFL needs to review their rules regarding criminal activity, punishments, and being reinstated. When these guys are suspended for 2 or 3 games we all say that the $$$ means nothing to them. The punishments need to sting and reinstatement needs to come with education and classes with regard to whatever the crime was. They need to be more accountable. I'm not really familiar with the NFL's rules/punishments but they don't always seem very effective.
Other criminals are still playing - same response above.
Not sure what your last statement means. However, the video was enough. I believe the proper actions are being taken and disappointed it didn't happen sooner.
One final thought.... I do hope Ray Rice gets the help he needs so he can be a better husband and father. And I hope Janay gets help with her issues as well for the sake of her baby.
