If this is a sign of what winter will involve, I think that my wife and I may relocate to Tahiti. I'm too old to shovel snow, even with a snow blower. She'll have to go topless in Tahiti. Is she OK with that?

It is called the circle of life. Or as the LWNJ's would have us believe, the Arctic circle of life.

The water in the bird bath was iced over this morning. I had to pour a bucket of warm water over it to thaw the ice enough to slide it off. The washing machine hose that runs the washer water into the garden was frozen too. Guess it's time to use the shorter hose that doesn't freeze.

If that hose is downhill all the way, why not just connect a "Y" where the discharge comes out of the washer? Then when you finish washing, open the other valve on the "Y" to break the vacuum in the hose to the garden and allow all the water to drain out of the hose into the garden. Just before you start the washer each time, remember to check to be sure that other valved is closed...

Only about four months and it will be getting decent outside again. Have my firewood stacked, replaced the batteries in my old diesel truck yesterday. Just about ready for winter.

We were at Gravelly Point this afternoon (the observation hiking/biking/jogging park next to Reagan Airport), I was watching planes and listening to my scanner. It was pretty chilly and breezy, but I was amazed at how many brisk weather thrill seekers were still arriving with picnics and enjoying the chill and the overhead thunder of airplanes landing. I guess you just have to love this sort of thing to be there. Anyway, the planes were landing via the Potomac approach, which is in my aviation-nut opinion is the most thrilling as they land directly overhead so close you feel you can reach up and touch them. And then the sound of the vortex whirl, that's always cool, makes you feel like you're in outer space.

Harsh Cold to Freeze Northeast, Set Records in South The coldest air since last winter is set to move over the Plains and the East during the first half of the new week. The core of the cold air will focus over the northern Plains and the Great Lakes through at least Wednesday with overnight lows dipping down into the teens, and even the single digits in some normally colder spots. Highs temperatures from Washington, D.C., through New York City are forecast to stay near or below freezing on Tuesday, levels that would be considered below normal even during the heart of winter. www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/harsh-cold-to-freeze-northeast/37451243

We lived there when I was a small child.... sure wish I could remember it!

The bad part of winter trips to warm venues is that you have to come home, LOL

I'm really liking the fact that SouthWest now goes non-stop to San Juan from Baltimore. It's a great jump off point for some of the small Caribbean Islands. As they say in the islands.....soon come!

Just made a bank run, car doors and windows frozen shut from the rain water yesterday. It's a biting cold wind out there today.
Just heard 3ft of snow in Buffalo already today and still snowing at a rate of 4 inches an hour.
