Escaping to Vegas for five days soon..but my experience is that this time of year it's often every bit as cold and bitter there, sometimes even worse especially after the sun goes down. Last year it was sub 30 and snowing a couple of days.

Good point. Are you heading down this winter? Got two trips south planned so far. I don't mind winter, but that just makes getting away better. Mrs Shutout(or whatever I should call her) is on a whirlwind work trip to Bahamas, Turksand Caicos, Grenada. All in three days. Visted two in one day on a few days. Rough job.

East Coast on Alert for Storm to Threaten Thanksgiving Travel Farther to the north, the storm's impacts on the mid-Atlantic and Northeast will depend on its exact track and intensity along the East Coast. Enough cold air will be in place for the rain to fall as, mix with or change in snow in many communities in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Such a storm could drop a swath of substantial and disruptive snow from Virginia's I-81 corridor to New England. Six inches or more of snow could fall west of I-95 in the Northeast, making travel treacherous and causing flight cancellations. Snow in this scenario would even fall and accumulate in Washington, D.C., New York City and Boston. www.accuweather.com/…/east-on-alert-for-sto…/37800439

Doesn't look like the snow will be as bad as they originally forecasted.

If it gets cold enough and snowy enough, even the turkeys will look forward to being warmed up by the fire...

Always does around here, but it's more modern day issues. When I was a kid in grade school there had to be at least 5 inches of snow already on the ground before the school systems announced they would send us home.

Media doesn't help. Coupled with the drama kings/queens you have a mess.

Media doesn't help. Coupled with the drama kings/queens you have a mess. But it does wonders for attendance at work. As soon as the reports went out yesterday I started getting all the emails-so and so will be working from home on Wednesday. There will be two of us in the office today.

i am thanking the good Lord that the 3 hours of heavy downpour this morning was NOT snow. it started snowing here about 10 minutes ago. big heavy flakes...ground is almost covered already. nothing on the street or sidewalk or driveway yet. we're predicted to get 3 - 6 inches here...but snow is supposed to stop by early evening. i feel sorry for the travelers today...many had to change plans. hope everyone stays safe. drive carefully.
