"I know in my heart that man is good, that what is right will always eventually triumph and that there is purpose and worth to each and every life." I don't know where that quote is from - but it's wrong, IMO. Man is not inherently good. In fact, I think the majority of people are self serving, and that isn't exactly "good" in my book. There are plenty of examples of people who are pure evil as well. Nor is man inherently bad. Man is inherently good and bad. That’s why sometimes good people do bad things and bad people do good things. I dare say there isn’t a person here who hasn’t done both good and bad in the lifetime. Before I tell who said it, I'd like to know who else either believes it's correct or not... and of course, it IS someone else's opinion... Thank you for being honest with regard to the quote, Alienrace... I actually agree with it... I don’t agree with that statement. But since you do I wonder if you have the guts to say that about a member of ISIS face-to-face to the families of the men beheaded by ISIS . Or perhaps a Jew who had a family member murdered in a Nazi concentration camp. If you do then I’d say you’re a good person doing a bad thing; a cruel, insensitive and totally unproductive thing.

That is your opinion... and you're wrong... Sure it's my opinion. And I'm putting it out there for other people to see if they agree with it, because... Paterno didn't really DO anything... it has been said that he only knew somebody who did... He told the university to look the other way while Sandusky raped child after child. That's evil. Clinton is said to have raped someone... both are bad in my opinion... I didn't defend either... and I think both men did bad things... and good things... what they will be remembered for is up to those who choose to judge them... Wait... Clinton is accused by one woman of rape (as far as I've heard) and you're equating him to a man who stood by while child after child was raped? And... how the hell do you bring up Clinton and his one rape accusation in a thread where you defend Cosby against 25 women? (Yeah. Another came forward. A model from the 70s and 80s who claims Cosby invited her to his house to audition for his show, drugged her, and when she fought back angrily dragged her outside and put her in a cab). You write posts meant to stir people up. And that's all they're meant to do.

I brought up Clinton because of what James Carville had told me... if what someone told me stirs you up, then you must really have thin skin... Joe Paterno coached his Penn State Nittany Lions team to a 38-20 win over my Southern Miss Golden Eagles on November 3, 2001... I was there... it was a good win for Paterno, the players on his team, and Penn State... Good luck with your opinion poll...

I brought up Clinton because of what James Carville had told me... Now you want me to believe you know Carville? And that he'd speak to you about the inner workings of the Clinton administration? <- laughing at you, not with you Joe Paterno coached his Penn State Nittany Lions team to a 38-20 win over my Southern Miss Golden Eagles on November 3, 2001... I was there... it was a good win for Paterno, the players on his team, and Penn State... He was competent coach. That doesn't mean he wasn't evil - he was.

You write posts meant to stir people up. And that's all they're meant to do. Yeah... I leave here and go to town for a few hours... get back... and 53 people here have quoted me... either wanting to attack me... or talk about what I have said... in which group do you find yourself?... I prefer the latter group...

And as for "competent"... does that mean anything like... well... "good?"... You don't know what competent means? Why not ask one of the famous people you know? James Carville's just a phone call away, right?

James Carville's just a phone call away, right? In other words, you DON'T WANT to answer my question... because doing so would blow some things you've said about being "good" right out of the water... And you say "I" say things just to stir folks up... And as to your question... yes, he is... (This post is another "good" example of someone attacking someone else on only one small segment of a post and totally ignoring the rest of it... I offered to prove it to you... but you ignored my offer... Here's what you ignored:I couldn't care less whether or not you believe it... but he told me face-to-face in the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill... I can get you the date... you can check his schedule... and I'll give you mine...

Never mind you are the one that doesn't get it except to stir the pot Stirring the pot can be "good"... brings the idiots to light... because they don't want to, or can't, debate the issue... (Of course now we're in a battle as to what is good/competent...)

adjective \ˈkäm-pə-tənt\
: having the necessary ability or skills : able to do something well or well enough to meet a standardUsing that definition I would say Paterno was competent/good as a football coach and incompetent/bad as a human being, which is what I believe EY said.

Thank you... then Paterno was indeed like Carville told me about Clinton... a good man (coach) who did a bad thing (covered up a crime)... Of course let's not forget that he was also a human being when he was a coach too... he just failed in one area of his life for a period of time... which was very late in his life... he also had many more years when he may NOT have failed... even while he was being a good coach... I'm not gonna condemn his entire life because of a small portion of it... he did some very good things in those other almost 70 years...

Watched Cosby show reruns last night. Still first class comedy That was at least one of the "good" things about Cosby... those good things can still be enjoyed unless one just chooses to focus on one or more of the "bad" things... Like someone else here said... all of us have done "good" things and "bad" things in our lives... after all, we are human...
