GM was focused too much on making big, gas guzzlers to survive as they were going... had to completely re-tool... now that gasoline is back down to a more reasonable price, I hope they aren't fool enough to go back to that plan... You know they will, though. Because for whatever reason men don't want to drive minivans, nobody wants to drive station wagons, but families need machines that can move kids hither and yon. Hell, even around here parents drive their kids a block to the school bus stops! Well in left wacko MD parents get thier kids picked up and given a lot of grief by petty government tyrants for walking home from the park so what do you expect parents to do.

I have literally never heard of this happening. I walked a half mile each way to and from grade school. I didn't get bus service until the school was over 2 miles away! Parents now literally drive the lazy kids a block. I could maybe understand that if we're talking a four year old, but by the time a kid's in grade school he ought to be able to walk a little bit.

The Montgomery County Gestapo have been threatening to take kids away from parents who let them go to the park alone: Fox NewsThis is what happens when government insists on involving itself in everything. Sort of ironic though, I thought the first lady was keen on kids getting exercise.

Wow. That's just... wow. So glad I don't live someplace where the pinkos are in charge. If the kids were troublemakers, that would be different. If they're just out having a good item, leave 'em be. Anyway, let's keep this thread on the subject of GM!

Neither have I... and likely neither has Rocketwolf... The elementary school where my granddaughters attend is 11 miles from here... the middle school where another granddaughter attends is 7, in another direction... the bus comes by to pick them up about 50 feet from my front door on school days... I don't like to have to take them to school... and I DON'T take them to school when they are going to be tardy... my position is that they ride the bus to and from school... except in special instances... and if they don't... it's OUR fault... not the kids...

Sort of ironic though, I thought the first lady was keen on kids getting exercise. These kids, at their ages, SHOULD have been picked up and detained... the parents SHOULD be warned with regard to child neglect... and the kids removed and put in a home where there are parents who REALLY care for their children... I contacted the school here and complained about them disciplining children for being tardy... I told them they should be calling in the parents or guardians... and punishing them... because it is their responsibility to see that the kids get up, dressed, and to school on time... I am BIG on responsibility...

Anyway, let's keep this thread on the subject of GM! At 6 and 10 years of age?... no way... try leaving them locked in the car at the shopping center... and a GOOD cop drives by... he'll be waiting for you when you get back to the car... and charging you with child neglect... as he should... Back to GM... you really don't want to get me started on this... but if you do, just start a thread... I have a LOT to say on the subject... but would likely share only a portion of it...

At 6 and 10 years of age?... no way... try leaving them locked in the car at the shopping center... and a GOOD cop drives by... he'll be waiting for you when you get back to the car... and charging you with child neglect... as he should... At 6 I was walking a half mile to and from grade school by myself. By 10 I was walking and riding (a bike) all over the neighborhood, sometimes for miles. As a kid, I'd have deeply resented an asshat who got me picked up by CPS. Fortunately, they were a lot less powerful then. My Mom wasn't neglectful at all. She understood I could take care of myself in any ordinary situation, and she didn't live in fear like a lot of today's parents seem to. I suspect the person who dropped a dime did not like these people for some reason and wanted to get them in trouble. There are people like that in the world, bitter and mean.

It's not the "ordinary" situations that you need to worry about... it's the non-ordinary... you, and your mom, were lucky... a 6-year-old should NEVER be half-a-mile away from home without proper supervision... never... If I saw a six-year-old alone with the nearest house half-a-mile away... I'd call 911 and wait there till they got there before I left... and let them take the kid home...

Actually, there are only 4 houses within half-a-mile one direction from my farm (east)... 5 in another(north)... and 2 in another (west)... no businesses... which is of just as much concern because something could happen to a six-year-old and nobody would be around to help or call 911...

People just hear about them - from a dozen sources - when they do. I thought we weren't supposed to call people names around here... especially moderators... The "out of the ordinary" is what we as parents must watch out for with regard to our children... not the ordinary... like you "say"... you don't read about the "ordinary" in the newspaper...
