i know you can't possibly be talking about the ACCIDENT that involved tony stewart. how about...ray lewis? What about Ray Lewis? Prepare yourself for another ignorant viewpoint about Ray Lewis, you know, saying he's a murderer that got away with it.

That is also the reason that the NFL never got to see the video - it was illegal for them to do so, since Rice can be brought back to court, essentially the case is still open. In fact, TMZ might find themselves in some very hot water shortly, since their copy was illegally obtained. Man, you have been wrong at every turn on this one. Blind, unwavering loyalty to a professional sports team is an interesting phenomenon.

I feel sorry for Ray Rice and for Janay. Their path ahead is likely to be through a minefield. But only to a point. He beat her, so he's nowhere he didn't put himself.
The Ray Lewis matter is entirely closed and also entirely irrelevant. If you want to look back an a Raven who *actually* killed someone, Donte Stallworth, who was here for a year or so, would be that man.

And Donte Stallworth wasn't even a Raven when that accident occurred

From some reports looks Rice and wife will leave Maryland, they say the embarrassment is to much to handle.

Huh? "This is the Hangout. Take the politics to Nationals, aboutwell and vosa. Thanks."
I didn't post to this thread so why the gratuitous inclusion of my name? Neither had I... This is my first, and only, post on this thread...

I think the NRL has a double standard regarding arrests of players--especially involving players "under the influence" in a number of different circumstances.
For example, Aldon Smith, Wes Welker, Josh Gordon, Ray McDonald, Le'Veon Bell, LeGarrette Blount, Justin Blackmon, Jo-Lonn Dunbar, Keelan Johnson, Jimmy Smith, Cornelius Washington, Sean Smith, Marcell Dareus, Lorenzo Taliafero, T.J. Ward, Greg Hardy, Josh Morgan, Orson Charles, Greg Reid, Chris Culliver, Adewale Ojomo, Jah Reid, Deonte Thompson, Fred Davis, Roddy White--all since the Superbowl and quite a few others in years prior. Did Greg Hardy (or any of the others) suffer a permanent ban by the NFL?
I cannot condone what Ray Rice did under the influence, but compared to others, he was crucified IMHO.

I think the biggest problem with the Ravens and the NFL is the fact that Rice, being such a high profile player, and the bad publicity the incident brings to them... it isn't so much about the actual "abuse to women" or "abuse/use of alcohol"... bad publicity means loss of $$$... and you know what they say about the love of $$$... I'd probably take his case... but the bad publicity angle would definitely be a problem... as it has in my business in the past...

I think that under the circumstances, the Ravens HAD to take some kind of action... suspension, perhaps... termination, not necessarily... "death penalty" to his career, no way...

If Goodell had done just job at the begining and banned Rice 8 games there wouldn't be this hige uproar. People would have said he got what he deserved and it would be over.

I agree, what was handed out is just as much a punishment for his wife, not fair to her. May I suggest ---Rice give one half his sallery to a help group for 1 or 2 yrs. On top of that 1000 hours community service or something on that order. The death penalty should only go to members of other teams JK

I think that under the circumstances, the Ravens HAD to take some kind of action... suspension, perhaps... termination, not necessarily... "death penalty" to his career, no way... It's about reputation. Rice damaged the Ravens' brand. Employees who do that get fired. And he damaged the NFL's brand. They can't fire him, so they made him unhireable. All of this is told to players, known and understood by them, and in their contracts, when they sign. They get paid, and paid well, to play a game but also to make sure that people watch that game. Damage the brand and alienating customers amounts to failing to discharge their duty to their employer. Even in a union shop that'll get you fired. Ray is nowhere he did not put himself. There's no reason for lenience. I believe the tolerance for unforgivable misconduct that you display, aboutwell, is largely the reason why we have so much of it. You *must* hold people to a high standard, and the punishment for failure has to really hurt - or they will misbehave. The evidence is clear: most people do not behave well without dreadful consequences for failing to do so.

Actually, you did... you "implied" that Vosa and I did it... your comment was not "directed" at anyone... I did consider you had done what you are saying you had done, but there was no way to tell... and I couldn't find a quote of EY saying exactly what you said... (I did look... and it sounded like something he would say)... I also looked for an edit where perhaps the post had been edited buy some moderator... (didn't see one)... I agree with what you said... but you didn't make it clear as to what you meant... you could have said: "Remember these words, EY"... but you didn't... no problem here... and I wouldn't have even known my name had been used had I not stumbled up on it by accident... and might not have responded had Vosa not responded... my comment was in response to his...
