That's great!! Avoid LAX. It's a zoo. Burbank is a great little airport! Car rental, baggage claim right there! Shuttles, taxi very accessible. Only about 15 miles from downtown LA. We love the Chattsworth/Northridge suburbs of LA. You will have a blast on Cali! The drive to Vegas (via highway 15) is a cool drive through Death Valley. The Santa Monica pier is great as is Long Beach! Our Admin can give you some great CA tips!! Thanks, doglover. We will always remember your visit. There is so much more you didn't get a chance to see. btw, Long Beach is a good airport too. In and out, and have a rental car quick like. Cowboyz, let me know if you want any travel advice for Cali.

Actually, the Piedmont Plateau region in the Fall, spread out a bit to include Harpers Ferry. I have to be here every year for the changing of the leaves, so beautiful and it gives me a sense of peace. Taking the grandkids to Gettysburg tomorrow to search the cemeteries and than soak up nature at it's finest on the battlefields and Sachs Bridge. I LOVE Gettysburg and Harpers Ferry this time of year! This would normally be the weekend that we take the kids for a "Fall trip" but hubby and I are heading to TN for a long weekend to visit my in laws. I'm hoping for some beautiful foliage. My camera is locked and loaded!! Yup, the 3 of us went there last weekend just to enjoy, walk around ghost tours ect.... Great time! LOVE the Burnside Bridge but we didn't go to Antietam. Good and not so good news in Evergreen Cemetery, I found the gravesites of five ancestors from the Revolutionary to Civil War eras. Sadly, one ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War had his gravestone destroyed by gunfire during the fighting in that graveyard during the Civil War. I found his wife's gravestone, his got destroyed- weird . I was back in Gettysburg Friday to pick up a motorcycle at the Harley dealership (with a quick sideways tour by Devil's Den) and then to a music session in the Gary Owen Pub yesterday afternoon. Harper's Ferry here I come, this week for sure. Love my Piedmont Plateau.

I remember going to the Ozarks on vacation as a small child. Stayed with some friends in an old school house that was convereted into a vacation cabin. It was in the middle on nowhere. Swan in the rivers, went to see all of the big springs in the area, fished, and just had fun.

For beaches on the east coast, I love Assateague Island National Seashore and the Outer Banks.
I am a California girl by birth. I love San Diego and Monterey/Carmel. San Francisco is a great place to visit, too.
The most exotic place I lived as a child was Oahu, Hawaii. It's tough to beat the weather. My mom didn't enjoy island life nearly as much.

I've heard such great things about San Diego! I must be the only person in the world with no interest in visiting Hawaii, no particular reason. I'm just not interested.

The Georgia coastline is nice also. I used to go there as a kid. Jekyll island and saint Simons island are nice. I was there a few years ago for just a drive through and it hadn't changed much. We used to camp there.

Oh yeah! Alaska! Where I live ! It is epic! Every time I go to Denali I am floored. I would say this the most incredible outdoor playground ever.

I like to go places that aren't well known-my favorite caribbean get-away was little cayman but they ruined it (the population doubled from 20 to 40 and they PAVED a road). My favorite ski vacation spot is taos new mexico although vail is incredible for the amount and diversity of terrain. The quetico/boundary waters area is an amazing place-on the canadian side it's a true wilderness (planes aren't allowed to fly over) and you can drink the water right out of the lake....plus on the drive to ely from the twin cities you can stop and see the only gas station designed by frank lloyd wright. It's also the only time I've gone thru customs in a canoe.
