Oh wow, that sounds beautiful. I can't wait to visit Alaska one day! It's pretty epic! Just don't come right now unless you really like cold and snow. LOL June/July seems like a much better option.

Glad to hear it! My in-laws would live for us to move to TN. I used to say "no way" but lately it is looking like a possibility, thanks to the wonderful leadership of this fine state (sarcasm intended). Who knows what will happen when we retire, I still have to get my kids through college!! Did I say no state taxes on personal earned income? Now, I but merely have to survive the White Death that is turning the local environs into Jotunheim itself. How about inheritance taxes?

Alaska is definitely on our bucket list in three years. Do it! Bring lots of megapixels. Would say bring a lot of film but that's old school. I can't stress the endless beauty of this state and the epic outdoor adventures. You can borrow one of my kayaks!

Another spot we enjoy- home away from home! Is St. Pete Beach in Florida, Go there every year. Wonderful white sand beaches, nice, gentle, warm Gulf Waters....plenty of excellent restaurants and beachy things to do. And if we get bored of that- 20 minute drive you're in standard suburbia, but everything is cheaper, so my wifey-poo love to hit Ross and Marshalls and get a new wardrobe and such. Then drive another 10 minutes- big-city Tampa and St. Petersburg stuff. Excellent museums, stadiums, zoo, nature parks, festivals, etc. We also love going to Tarpon Springs, about 45 min north, old sponge-diving town, still working, almost all Greek. Great restaurants and cool little shops and a neat aquarium. We are absolutely retiring there.

Kayaks, probably not on this trip... I would kayak but my hubby won't! I usually do that kind of stuff with my boys and this won't be a family trip!

We've been a few places that we would love to go back to but will try to get to some new places too. My wife loves Old Town Key West and I admit it is a cool place. We have been to the Sturgis Motorcycle rally a couple times and are probably going back next year. I go to the Black Hills hunting too, not just for the rally, and I really like the area.
We went to Edinburgh Scotland at the end of August this year for out 25th wedding anniversary. It was a very good trip. We even rode the steam train over the viaduct you see in the Harry Potter movie on our way north during a two day excursion through the Highlands.
Munich was fun. We rented a Harley and rode down to Austria through some small towns and some great scenery. The cathedrals were something else as was a small church that was built around 800AD and has never been damaged by war. It had a diamiond encrusted Black Madonna that is one of the most valuable religous relics in Europe not to mention the hearts of every king and queen of Bavaria (from about 1500 or so if I remember correctly) mounted on the wall in little silver boxes.
We have been to a good many places in the US and want to see more but our next trip, which we can't pin down yet, will be Alaska or Paris.
I'm not sure if we have a favorite place. They are all good in their own way.

Haven't made it to Alaska yet, probably in the next two or three years. However, Paris is to die for- stunning architecture, beautiful scenery, friendly people, and great food. Been there twice and will definitely go back.

We've had a lot of fun living Alaska for 10 years, but me and my wife have decided they were probably going to move back down to the lower 48. I'm sure there are things we will miss about Alaska. I just feel so far from everything.

Haven't vacationed outside the continental U.S. other than Canada and Mexico... just don't feel the need... I've vacationed in all lower 48 and don't think I could name my favorite place... maybe my 12 most favorite places... I could name my most favorite place in most of the individual states... but not just one in some of them... Soso, Mississippi is not bad... as my avatar shows...
My avatar shows Chinle, Arizona now...

I know it isn't exotic but I like the Georgia coast. Heading to Saint Simons Island this year for a few days. Great place.

What is that place that was so magical that you can't wait to go back. I've done quite a bit of traveling in Europe and the US and maybe I'm just simple but I prefer beautiful mountains and a lake. Take me to Smith Mountain Lake in VA and I'm a happy girl. I know I still have a lot to see but this place is where I feel happiest!! I take it that your European travels didn't take you as far as... Interlaken ...in Switzerland, or the Lake District in England. Norway has one or two lakes and a few mountains too. . But I do get your point about Home Sweet Home.

My European travels did not take me there but they did take me to Innsbruck, Austria which was amazing, beautiful, breath taking. I do hope to make it to Switzerland one day.... so much more I'd like to see.
