What is that place that was so magical that you can't wait to go back. I've done quite a bit of traveling in Europe and the US and maybe I'm just simple but I prefer beautiful mountains and a lake. Take me to Smith Mountain Lake in VA and I'm a happy girl. I know I still have a lot to see but this place is where I feel happiest!!

Actually, the Piedmont Plateau region in the Fall, spread out a bit to include Harpers Ferry. I have to be here every year for the changing of the leaves, so beautiful and it gives me a sense of peace. Taking the grandkids to Gettysburg tomorrow to search the cemeteries and than soak up nature at it's finest on the battlefields and Sachs Bridge.

I LOVE Gettysburg and Harpers Ferry this time of year! This would normally be the weekend that we take the kids for a "Fall trip" but hubby and I are heading to TN for a long weekend to visit my in laws. I'm hoping for some beautiful foliage. My camera is locked and loaded!!

California! Driving up the coastline in a convertible was magnificent. The walk on Sunset Boulevard, Venice Beach, were all wonderful. One of the happiest moments of my life was standing with Elmo in front of Graumans Chinese Theater. I would love to go back!

It's a fantastic kick-off point to see the rest of Europe. Just keep chugging away, something will work out for you. In the meantime, you are blessed with all of this diverse and fantastic beauty on the home front.

I'd love to see it, maybe one day in a galaxy far, far away...... The Spousal Unit seems to have no interest to our south.

We had these great plans to go to France and they fell thru . We're still working on it. I have an aunt and uncle who go there frequently. They love it; they rent a house and explore the city. I suspect you'd like it there. A lot of good food and culture.

Car rental, baggage claim right there! Shuttles, taxi very accessible. Only about 15 miles from downtown LA. We love the Chattsworth/Northridge suburbs of LA. You will have a blast on Cali! The drive to Vegas (via highway 15) is a cool drive through Death Valley. The Santa Monica pier is great as is Long Beach! Our Admin can give you some great CA tips!!

Thanks, doglover. We will always remember your visit. There is so much more you didn't get a chance to see. btw, Long Beach is a good airport too. In and out, and have a rental car quick like. Cowboyz, let me know if you want any travel advice for Cali.

Every time we go to Quebec the cuisine in all the restaurants seems at a very high-level even at inexpensive ones

There are two experiences I have had, one in Morocco and one in Kenya that were magical to me.
In Morocco I was invited to a family house way out in the country. It took two cabs and some hitchhiking to get there. The family was very poor and had a house made from mud. They fixed me a nice lunch. The woman that invited me was about 30 years old and kept asking me if I wanted a shower and I kept saying no. Then she said ...I thought you came here for experience! So I gave in to the shower not knowing she had planned on giving me a moroccan bath. It was awesome!
In Kenya I was in a Maasai village. Which was exciting enough. The sun was setting, in the opposite direction were anticrepuscular rays. To see that with the Maasai was caused me overwhelming awe.
